KDP's Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is your availability for portrait sessions?
    • I book 95% of my sessions on the weekends; mostly Saturdays and some Sunday afternoons.  Occasionally, a weekday session can be accommodated.

  • Can I order prints or other products from you?
    • Yes!  I am so proud to offer an array of heirloom quality products.  Prints, gallery-wrapped canvases, heavy stock cards and announcements, and stunning albums are all of premium quality and produced by professional labs.  If you’re local, I look forward to hand delivering your order to you.  Out-of-towners, I can have your order shipped right to your door.

  • Do I get all my pictures on a CD/DVD/thumb drive?
    • No.  The delivery method I’m using for clients who purchase digital packages is a direct download of your high-res files from your gallery (here at kdp dot com) to your PC.  It’s fabulous, and you’re going to love it.

  • What is a print release?
    • If you purchase a digital package, you will be provided with a form which expresses consent for you, the Client, to reproduce the images from your session and make an unlimited number of prints, for personal use.  A print release is not to be confused with a copyright release; KD Photography retains the copyright to all images, per USC Title 17 (US Copyright Law).

  • What does it mean for KDP to retain the copyright?
    • By retaining the copyright to all images, KDP has the right to use and publish images and photographs taken at your photo session to further promote its service, including portfolio, web site, social media, display, advertisement, and editorial use.  If you have purchased a digital package, your print release does not include use that results in financial gain, including but not limited to: advertising, stock photography, print sale profits, or resale of any nature.

  • What should I wear for my session?
    • My first answer to this is ALWAYS that you should wear clothing that makes you feel GOOD, attractive, comfortable.  My recommendation for couples and groups is to choose a color palette to work from, and dress each person in coordinating colors, rather than matching outfits.  Pinterest is a fantastic visual aid for this.  I am more than happy to consult on wardrobe selections for your session.

  • How do I book a Newborn session?
    • Newborn sessions are unique because even with a projected due date, we still never really know when a baby will make his/her grand entrance.  It is best to book me in your second or early third trimester; I only book a very limited number of these per month.  I will make a note of your due date, and you will need to contact me ASAP after the birth so we can solidify a date for your session.  Newborn sessions are photographed within the first 7-21 days of life whenever possible.

  • What if my baby is born early and has to stay in the NICU a while?
    • These things happen.  If your baby is born prematurely and/or has some health complications, that does not mean you can't still have your newborn photo session.  It just means that we'll have to be patient until Baby is strong enough to do the photoshoot.  Generally, preemies tend to remain nice and sleepy for longer than full-term babies do anyway.  Just keep me updated and we will work it out.

  • What is your turnaround time?
    • After we photograph your session, it is generally around two weeks until we meet again for your reveal and ordering appointment.

  • When you're done with editing, then what?
    • Local clients, it would be my pleasure to meet with you in person for the reveal of your final collection.  It is my hope that you will allow me the opportunity to help guide you through selecting and ordering whatever prints and products you want.  This process is designed to save you time and the hassle of having to do it all yourself!  Out-of-town clients will be able to place orders as well.

  • Can my pet(s) be in my photos?
    • This is determined on a case-by-case basis.

  • Do you do weddings? Family reunions? Birthday parties?  Corporate events?
    • No, I do not offer photography services for events of any kind.

  • Do you do mini-sessions?
    • I do a very limited number of mini-sessions at certain times of the year - usually only around the holidays.  Sign up for my email newsletter to make sure you don’t miss the next mini-session event.  At this time, I do not offer mini-sessions year round.

  • Do you have a Facebook page?
    • Yep!  And Instagram, too (@karendingesphoto).  I share previews from my sessions there, information on themed mini-session events, promos, model calls, contests.  Just go here and Like the page.  Set it to “Get Notifications” to make sure you never miss my posts in your news feed.  I also recommend signing up for my email newsletter.
